HOTEL REVIEW – Route 66 Motor Inn – Emerald

The Route 66 Motor Inn is one of the newest accommodation options in Emerald, which is one of Central Queensland’s rapidly growing towns. It's located close to the centre of town, and is within a 5-10 minute walk to most of Emeralds shops and cafes. It is also located approximately 5km from the Airport.

As shown above, the Route 66 Motor Inn unfortunately fell victim to the recent flooding in Emerald, however the owners have made rapid progress in the clean-up, and at present, about two-thirds of the rooms are available for accommodation.

It was evident from my recent stay that there is some flood damage to these rooms, however, this is merely cosmetic and didn’t affect the overall quality of the room. There is also some parking limitations at the moment, with damaged beds and furniture as well as tradesmen’s vehicles taking up some of the parking spaces normally used by guests.

The owners have also established a flood ‘barrier’ around the motel property.

I have stayed at Route 66 Motor Inn previously, before the flooding, and on each occasion – including this one – the room is very modern, and very comfortable, and, surprisingly spacious. The rooms aren’t much to look at from the outside, but are feature packed, with 1 or 2 beds or bedrooms, air-conditioning, lounge, table and chairs, work desk, LCD TV with free cable TV channels, as well as a fully appointed kitchenette with tea and coffee making facilities.

The bathrooms are also roomy and modern, and feature water-efficient shower heads and an exhaust fan!

The Route 66 Motor Inn has a restaurant, and despite not eating there personally, it is highly regarded, and appears to have a good range of delicious menu items for breakfast and dinner.

The Route 66 Motor Inn aims to cater for all range of travellers – not just the shift worker or executive – but families and tourists alike that may be just passing through town. It is a modern facility and the staff have always been extremely friendly and helpful.
